La Mexicana
Family-run La Mexicana is the place to go for authentic Mexican cuisine north of Eglinton. After moving here from Mexico city, the family started cooking up some super traditional offerings at La Mexicana, and they don’t plan on stopping. Open since 1988, the menu is a collection of real Mexican classics. The mini-empanadas are cute as anything and also totally tasty. They are made with corn flour for a wonderfully crumbly texture. With four in a serving (two stuffed with chorizo and potato and two with Oaxaca cheese), the only difficulty for the street eater is holding them all in your hands. The drool-worthy burritos and tacos are also top hits on the menu, but make sure you go in hungry because, at La Mexicana, they believe the bigger the better.
