Now that the holiday season is in full swing, what better way to indulge than with some classic cheer in liquid form? The County General just so happens to be known for its cocktails, and with some 35 bourbons (and just as many rums) available, you know you’re in good hands.
Although it’s not on the official menu, Jeff Carroll has no problem whipping up the so-called Kraken ‘n’ nog ($12). The bartender — who poured at the Ritz-Carlton and the Toronto Temperance Society before moving westward — shakes The Kraken rum together with some Boulard calvados, milk and of course, a whole egg.
Apple-cinnamon bourbon bitters, simple syrup and The General’s warming house spice mix (cinnamon, clove, nutmeg) help imbue the beverage with a taste of the season. The whole affair is finished with some freshly grated nutmeg, and it’s then skewered with a cinnamon stick.
